MASS BOOK FOR THE YEAR 2009 Due to the beginning of Lent, the scheduling of Masses and Sanctuary Lamps for the year 2009 can be arranged beginning Tuesday, February 12 at 9:00 AM in the Church Hall. More details will be in next week’s bulletin.

REMINDER REGARDING TAX LAW CHANGES – Beginning with contributions made in 2007, parishioners (those who itemize their tax returns) will no longer be able to deduct contributions to the parish unless they maintain a bank record or written contribution statement from the parish. If you wish to ensure deductibility of your contributions to the parish, please use a check, direct deposit from your bank account, or use your parish envelopes. The parish will track contributions made using parish envelopes, and will produce a written statement of contributions made during 2007 by the end of January 2008. Canceled checks and other bank records are also sufficient documentation. The parish cannot track cash contributions not in parish envelopes. Thank you for using your envelopes or checks.

The First Day of Lent 2008 Wednesday, February 6

Masses and Ashes Distribution: 8:30 AM; 12:05 PM; 5:30 PM 7:00 PM (Spanish)

LENTEN REGULATIONS Lent is the penitential season of the Church’s year. It begins on Ash Wednesday and ends with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday. Lent has six Sundays. The sixth being call passion or Palm Sunday and marks the beginning of Holy Week. Listed below are the Lenten Regulations for 2008.

ASH WEDNESDAY (February 6) AND GOOD FRIDAY (March 21) are days of Fast and complete Abstinence from meat. There is a limit of one full meal on these days for all between the ages of 18 and 59 inclusive.

DAYS OF ABSTINENCE: (ALL FRIDAYS IN LENT) – All who have reached their 14th year are bound to abstain totally from meat on the Fridays of Lent.

EASTER DUTY OBLIGATION – All Catholics who have received their First Holy Communion, are bound by obligation of receiving Holy Communion at least once a year, preferably during the Easter Season. Catholics are also bound to confess their sins at least once a year, but this is not limited to the Lenten/Easter Season.

Traditionally the Lenten Season is a time of penance throughout the Catholic Church. Lent is a season in which prayer, the reception of the sacraments, charity and almsgiving are to be emphasized in the life of each Catholic.

LENTEN PROGRAM OF MASS, REFLECTION, & SOUP IS SOMETHING TO TAKE STOCK IN Mass, a free soup and bread supper, and a Lenten program of reflection will be presented for the six weeks of Lent on Wednesday evenings beginning Wednesday, February 13 and ending March 19. The Mass will begin at 5:30 PM in the church, followed by a Lenten meal and reflection presented by clergy and laity in the Church Hall. Everyone is invited to attend. RSVP to the rectory is requested but is not necessary to attend at 269-8791. Look for further details in upcoming bulletins.

NEW MASS SCHEDULE Going into effect on the First Sunday of Lent, February 10, 2008: 

            Saturday Vigil Mass  4:00 PM

            Sunday Masses at     7:30 AM

                                                    9:00 AM

                                                  10:30 AM

            with the Spanish Mass at 12 Noon  

            Baptisms will be at 1:30 PM.  

FYI: Mass intentions formerly scheduled for the 12 Noon Mass will be added to the Mass intentions at the 10:30 AM Mass.

MASS AT REGENCY HOUSE will be celebrated on Monday, January 28, 10:00 AM. Volunteers who assist the residents to and from Mass are asked to please be at the home no later than 9:45 AM.

Most Holy Trinity Living Rosary Lead by Father Jeff Gubbiotti

Hosted by the Trinity Ladies Club

Everyone is welcome to join in this special rosary in honor of Our Lady of Lourdes. Families will make up each bead of the Living Rosary. Refreshments will be served following the rosary in the church hall. Please plan on giving this special honor to Our Lady of Lourdes , and to pray in a special way for those who are sick.

PRE-BAPTISM CLASSES – Baptism classes help prepare first time parents (and others) for bringing their child up in the faith. The next class is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29 at 7:00 PM in the Church. Parents or soon-to-be-parents MUST BE REGISTERED MEMBERS OF HOLY TRINITY PARISH. Those wishing to attend a Tuesday class must call the rectory to register, 269-8791.

RETREAT, LADIES, IT’S TIME FOR A WEEKEND RETREAT JUST FOR YOU at the Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center in Farmington . From February 8-10 you can find peace within yourself, with God, and with others around you. The weekend away in tranquil reflection is just $180 which includes meals. CATHOLIC CELEBRATION OF MARRIAGE WEEK    FEBRUARY 10-16 Catholic Celebration of Marriage Week and World Marriage Day honor husband and wife as head of the family, the basic unit of society. This celebration salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily-married life. It also is a very positive way to acknowledge the sacredness of the vocation of marriage as a sign of God’s love for all in the Church and society. Parishioners are asked to pray for the married couples they know, especially those facing challenges. Couples are asked to pray for your spouse and your marriage. Attend Mass or pray the Rosary together this week. Every young adult or adult can offer to baby-sit for a couple you know so they can spend a few hours together.

ST. PAUL CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL SHADOW DAY “An Education You Can Believe In!”     On Monday, January 28, current 8th graders who are interested in learning more about St. Paul ’s High School by spending a day at the school in Bristol with one of the “shadowing” students, are invited to come to Shadow Day. It will be both a fun and educational day. January is Catholic Schools Month and there will be a school-wide Mass that day, along with other events. MASS CELEBRATING BLACK HISTORY MONTH, and the National Day of Prayer for the African-American Family, sponsored by the Archdiocesan Office for Black Catholic Ministries, will be celebrated on February 3rd at 2:00 PM at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 140 Farmington Avenue , Hartford . “MAKING MORALLY INFORMED DECISIONS IN SERIOUS ILLNESS AND AT THE END OF LIFE” is a special lecture being presented by Father Tadeusz Pacholczyk, PhD, a priest of the Diocese of Fall River, MA, and Director of Education for the National Catholic Bioethics Center in Philadelphia. Father Pacholczyk will give you insights on the issues and moral implications that individuals and families may face at times of grave illness.

LOURDES JUBILEE YEAR 2008 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE APPARITIONS…50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SHRINE OF LOURDES IN LITCHFIELD , CONNECTICUT

Pope Benedict XVI has authorized a Plenary Indulgence for those who visit a Shrine or Church dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes from February 2-11, 2008. The Shrine of Lourdes in Litchfield , CT , from February 2-11, will offer Eucharist each day in the Grotto chapel at 10:30 AM, followed by the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, and availability of the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The Shrine is open daily, dawn to dusk, and the Grotto Chapel will be open from 10 AM to 7:00 PM, for visits and prayer in order to fulfill the requirements of the Indulgence, which can also be applied to the souls of the faithful in purgatory. During this Jubilee Year, there will also be celebrating the major Marian feasts. SUNDAY BIBLE SCHOOL (for pre-school) meets in the Church Hall on Sundays during the 9:00 AM Mass on January 27, February 3, 10, 24. Please register your child by 8:45 AM in the Hall or call the Religious Education Office at 265-6300.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION REGISTRATION AND GOD EXPO for the 2008/2009 school year will take place after all Masses in the church hall on Saturday/Sunday, March 1 & 2. All students entering grades 1-9 must be registered at this time. All new students to the CCD program must present a baptismal certificate upon registration. Registration for Sunday Bible School (for ages 3-5) will take place at this time as well. 

CHALICE PROGRAM FOR VOCATIONS The parish of Most Holy Trinity will begin this program with the First Sunday of Lent, February 9th & 10th .Currently, we have 170 families/individuals who have signed up to take the Chalice home for the week and Pray for vocations. If anyone would like to sign up for the program, please contact the Parish Office at 269-8791 during regular office hours, Monday thru Friday, 9 AM to 4 PM.  Thank you
