WE CELEBRATE THE FEAST OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 15, 2007 + + + This is a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics + + +HOLY DAY MASSES ARE: 8:30 AM, 12:05 PM, 5:30 PM, and  7:00 PM (Spanish) “O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee.”

Q. What are we celebrating on the feast of the Assumption of Mary?

A. The Assumption, along with the Immaculate Conception, are two Marian dogmas that have been infallibly defined by the church. The Assumption proclaims the reality that Mary was taken up body and soul into heaven. This was God’s special gift to her in response to her giving of self to God’s plan and will. The church believes that Mary was immaculately conceived, that is, conceived without original sin. This led the church to believe that she did not suffer one of the key consequences of original sin, death and corruption. The Orthodox Church celebrates the Dormition of Mary, the belief that Mary did not die but rather fell asleep and was then assumed into heaven. What significance does this feast have for our lives as Christians today? The feast is above all an assurance and hope of our continued life with God. Modeling ourselves on Jesus and living the Christian life molded by Jesus’ values, is certainly the sure path to God. As a result, God will not leave us orphaned or alone to suffer the emptiness of death. Rather we believe that death is merely a transformation of our present state into an even more glorious and eternal relationship with God. This is the hope and assurance that Mary’s Assumption celebrates. It is a celebration of our assumption as well. She is one of us, providing a model of what God has in store for all who love and give of themselves to God.© 2006 Liturgical Publications, Inc., New Berlin WI 53151

SS. PETER & PAUL-WALLINGFORD - ROSARY GARDEN PRAYER……will be recited on Monday, August 13 at 6:00 PM. In the case of rain, the Rosary will be recited in the Church at the altar of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In 1917, Our Lady appeared to 3 children in Portugal . She encouraged all to recite the Rosary for conversion and reparation of sins.  Come and join us. Bring a lawn chair and please invite your family and friends to pray with us.

NEXT WEEKEND SPECIAL COLLECTION FOR MISSIONARY CO-OP Next weekend, August 18-19, Most Holy Trinity Parish will be visited by a representative from the Diocese of Banjul, The Gambia, West Africa . The population is over one million people there, who are nearly all Muslim. There are only about 20,000 Catholics. The Church’s impact on a Muslim nation has been enormous in the educational and medical fields. For over 100 years the Holy Ghost Fathers, Sisters of St. Joseph of Cluny, and other Religious Orders have labored there. Indigenous vocations have blossomed; and there are Gambian Priests, native Sisters and strong growing Laity. Please support this needy Diocese in one of the poorest countries in the world.
