17TH ANNUAL ROSARY RALLY OF CONNECTICUT will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Waterbury on Sunday, October 1 from 2-3:30 PM. Fr. Frank Carter, Pastor of St. Brigid Church in West Hartford and Moderator of the Greater Hartford Legion of Mary, will speak on “Reparation to the Hearts of Jesus and Mary.” Procession, rosary, talks, hymns, Benediction. Living the Love of God In the Eucharist, In One AnotherEUCHARISTIC YOUTH RALLY 2006SATURDAY, OCTOBER 28 1:00-9:00 PMOUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL CHURCH, MERIDEN“ Deus Caritas Est” (God Is Love)The youth of the parish are invited to participate in this special local rally, which promises to bring spiritual enrichment and excitement in being present with God and with other area youth. Events include the celebration of the Mass; Music by the R.O.C.K. Group (Revival of Catholic Kids), dynamic speakers and witness talks, a special team challenge game with cash and prizes, and a special Candlelight Adoration and Procession of the Holy Eucharist. BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS IN HONOR OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI Dogs, cats, fish, birds, hamsters, or any of your beloved pets (and their human companions) are invited for this annual blessing in honor of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals and the environment. Special guests will include “visitors” from FIDELCO, guide dog services for the blind. Financial donations will be collected for Fidelco, (FYI-it costs about $20,000 to prepare a dog for service to a blind person); and pet food and pets supplies will be accepted for the Wallingford Animal Shelter. Everyone is invited to come on Saturday, October 7th to the rectory side parking lot at 1:00 PM. Please have your pet on a leash or in a cage. Thank you. MERIDEN COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC WOMEN is sponsoring a Scriptural Rosary with Benediction. It will be held on Sunday, October 1st at 2:00 PM at St. Laurent Church on 121 Camp Street, Meriden. All are invited to attend. Please bring a friend.
SUNDAY BIBLE SCHOOL is in session in the Church Hall during the 10:30 AM Mass. The Sunday Bible School program is designed for preschoolers (3-5 year old boys and girls who are potty-trained, please). The program includes arts & crafts, songs, bible stories, and learning prayers. Parents wishing to register their children are asked to please be in the church hall between 10:15-10:30 AM or call the Religious Education Office at 265-6300.
MAGNIFICAT FOR WOMEN HOLD BREAKFAST – All women are invited to the first Magnificat Breakfast to be held in the Archdiocese of Hartford on Saturday, October 7 at the Clarion Hotel in Bristol. Registration is at 8:30 AM; morning prayer, breakfast begin at 9:00 with guest speaker Fran Karpiej of Sharing Christ Ministry in Trumbull. “ PAINTING PARTY " The newly organized PARISH BUILDING & MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE will begin its FIRST project this Tuesday, October 3. All parishioners who are willing to give some timekeeping our church and its properties in "tip top" shape...are welcome to come down to the church hall and grab a brush or a roller and help paint the hall and/or its closets, kitchens, coat room, etc. anytime between the hours of 6:00 and 9:00 PM. If you're not into painting...but would like to help set- up or clean-up...you're invited too! Other "Painting Parties" are scheduled for October 10, 11, 18, 23 and November 1. Please call Marty Cassella, 269-1913, or the rectory, 269-8791, (during office hours) ...as to what dates you are available. Anyone who would like to paint on dates that are not specified - especially during the day or on weekends - is asked to call Nick Urbano, 213-0974 to arrange for a convenient time. On these dates food and beverages will be served at the "party". The first to volunteer to prepare and serve will be Gene and Barbara Riotte. If you wish to help please call them at 269-7554. Many other "talents" are needed for the Building and Maintenance Committee. If painting is not "your thing" please pick up a form at any entrance of the church for a listing, stop by the rectory or call for one to be mailed to you. You may either return it to the rectory or fold and place it in the offertory basket. The "Painting Party" is only one ministry/ organization/group that welcomes you to "'GET INVOLVED" and become an active member of our parish family. ARE YOU READY FOR THE 3RD ANNUAL ADVENT ADVENTURE BUS TRIP? Fr. Jeff is planning another fabulous bus trip for Wednesday, December 13 to Friday, December 15, 2006 to Pennsylvania and Maryland. This year’s trip will be highlighted by the beautiful Sight & Sound shows “The Miracle of Christmas” and “The Psalms of David”, the American Music Theatre Christmas Show; a side trip to Hershey’s Chocolate World, a chocolaty 4-D movie, and the Christmas Lights in Hershey Park, a pilgrimage visit to the National Grotto of our Lady of Lourdes, the Basilica of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and Mount St. Mary’s Seminary; spectacular smorgasbord meals and much, much more! Your cost, which includes 4 full meals + gratuity, 3 show tickets, 2 nights lodging at the Bird-In-Hand Inn (with indoor swimming pool), bus travel, and admission to all other tours and event sights, is only $310 per person (based on double occupancy). OUR LADY OF PERPETUAL HELP SOCIETY will hold its next meeting on the FIRST Monday of the month., October 2, 2006 at 1:30 PM. Meetings will return to our regular Second Monday of the month in November. A penny auction will be held at the October 2nd meeting. Please, remember to bring your items for the auction!
COORDINATORS NEEDED FOR BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY- Part of the work of the Archdiocesan Family Life Office is to train potential leaders in this most compassionate ministry to those who are grieving a lost loved one. If you wish to help reach out with a helping hand of support in the parish, you are invited to a training session on Saturday, October 14, from 10 AM to 3 PM, at the Family Life Office in Hamden. Please contact Rachel or Fr. Gary if you wish to be included in this training program to assist our parish bereavement group, which will meet on Wednesday evenings beginning after the October 14th training.
CCD “READY-TO-WEAR” SOCK AND COAT DRIVECheck your closets and drawers for any NEW or SLIGHTLY USED, (but CLEAN AND READY-TO-WEAR!) socks and coats. McDonald’s will donate 10% of the profits from 4-7 PM to Holy Trinity School. Special guest: Ronald McDonald will be there! Each HTS student will receive a sticker that night-bring your sticker to the school the next day and receive a coupon for free French fries! HTS students’ posters will be on display at McDonalds!
ANNIVERSARY SUNDAY CELEBRATION FOR COUPLES, who celebrate their Silver, Golden, or Diamond Anniversaries of Marriage in 2006-You are invited to a special Mass in St. Joseph Cathedral in Hartford on Sunday, October 22 at 3 PM. Archbishop Mansell will be the main celebrant. Each couple will be greeted personally, receive a commemorative memento, get a photo with the Archbishop, and renew their wedding vows. GLOBAL WARMING: IS IT REAL? is the first lecture in a new series sponsored by the parish of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 75 Center Road, Woodbridge. Mary Ellen Murphy, RSM of St. Joseph’s College, NASA Scientist, will provide insights into this HOT topic of the day and how global warming affects our lives! The lecture begins at 7:30 PM on October 3rd at Assumption Church.
COOL VIEWS ON HOT TOPICS, and how they affect our lives, is a lecture series sponsored by Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Woodbridge, 75 Center Road. The topics include: October 10 – End of Life Issues (Catherine Apaloo, MD and Alan Kliger, MD); October 17- Immigration (Attorneys, Maria Goetschalckx and Peter Schuck; October 24-The Death Penalty: A Different Perspective (Robert Nave).
