BUILDING AND MAINTENANCE NEWS

Work has moved along in the painting of the church hall and is just about completed. We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the faithful volunteers who have come each week to paint. The Ladies and Men's Rooms have been repainted as well as the trim and woodwork in the hall. When the hall is completed the work will move upstairs to the sacristy and then to the Father Gene Room. Volunteers are always welcomed to help in any capacity.

Last week, the sanctuary floor was poly-urethane by Marty Tangredi. Scratches and scuff marks were removed and a coat of poly-urethane was applied. We are very grateful to Marty for the great job that he did in making the sanctuary floor look so beautiful.

Concerning the “Old Tree” – Last week the “Old Tree” was cut down. The top part of the tree had died and it presented a real “safety hazard” not only to the rectory building but also to the parking lot. It was in our best interests that it be removed before something serious happened.

Concerning the three trees in the front of the rectory, since they were planted very close together, the roots have now caused the sidewalks to crack as well as preventing any grass to grow. They have fallen victim to a disease as well. The Building and Maintenance Committee decided it would be in our best interests to have them removed and plant grass in the Spring of the year. Hopefully, we will have a nice lawn come Spring.

“We encourage all citizens, particularly Catholics, to embrace their citizenship not merely as a duty and privilege, but as an opportunity meaningfully to participate in building the culture of life. Every voice matters in the public forum. Every vote counts. Every act of responsible citizenship is an exercise of significant individual power. We must exercise that power in ways that defend human life, especially those of God’s children who are unborn, disabled or otherwise vulnerable. We get the public officials we deserve. Their virtue – or lack thereof – is a judgment not only on them, but on us. Because of this, we urge our fellow citizens to see beyond party politics, to analyze campaign rhetoric critically, and to choose their political leaders according to the principle, not party affiliation or mere self-interest.” (1998, US Bishops, Living the Gospel of Life)
