This information is necessary to have on file when we need to record or provide sacramental information and services on your behalf. Census forms are available in any of the doorways of the church, and when completed, can be put in the collection basket, or mailed or dropped off at the rectory office. Thank you and welcome to the parish family!!!

ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL TO ASSIST THE UNINSURED WITH HEALTH CARE

Like the rest of the nation, Connecticut is caught in the grips of a health care and health insurance crisis. The needs in the city of Hartford are particularly acute. Now, the big white van parked in St. Peter’s Church parking lot each Wednesday, is a beacon of hope for Hartford’s poor. Named Malta House of Care, it is a free clinic for those without health insurance. It will be a strictly primary care facility with emphasis on pediatric, gynecological and pre-natal care. Also, treatment will be available for hypertension, diabetes, asthma, and other conditions acknowledged to be prevalent in this area.

On Wednesday, July 12, Archbishop Henry Mansell, blessed the van as it opened its doors for the first time. The Archdiocese of Hartford, through the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, along with the Order of Malta of Hartford County, brought this dream to fruition. And this is only the first step. The mobile clinic will be rotated among the parking areas of seven Catholic parishes in inner city Hartford, and will eventually be housed in a permanent facility. Although supported by the Archdiocese, and the Order of Malta, a strong benevolent Catholic organization, the free medical service will be available regardless or race, religion or nationality.

St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center is donating the use of the van, as well as temporary office space. Volunteer physicians and nurses, many of whom are fluent in English and in Spanish, will provide the services. All approved medications will be provided free of charge. In fact, no form of payment for any medical services rendered will be requested, whether directly or indirectly, from a third party. This is clearly a free clinic.

Archbishop Mansell has been and continues to be a strong advocate for the poor, the needy, and the children, in the three counties of the Archdiocese of Hartford. The Archdiocese has been the catalyst in this strong commitment to action, making life better one day at a time. He says, “The need in great, and only too clear. The long-term expectation for this free clinic is to provide service to 10,000 patients annually, patients who might not otherwise receive desperately needed health care for themselves or their children. This is indeed a very worthy effort and I sincerely appreciate all those who have collaborated to make this dream a reality. I appreciate all who have been so generous to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, making possible this and so many other vitally important services.”
