The Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Tuesday, August 15

Mass will be celebrated at: 6:30, 8:30 a.m.; 12:05, and 5:30 p.m. 7:00 p.m. in Spanish

The Assumption of Mary, taken up by God body and soul into Heaven, is the fourth Dogma on Virgin Mary, proclaimed by Pope Pius XII in his Munificentissimus Deus in 1950. "Assumption" means to be “taken up” body and soul to Heaven. It is not Ascension, like Jesus, done by his own power, but Assumption done by the power of God. It is a gift of God as a result of Christ's redemptive power applied to the Virgin Mary. The Dogma says, "The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin is a singular participation in her Son's Resurrection". Our Lady’s Assumption as Mother of the Church, is a great cause for hope for us all.

This special collection on August 26-27 focuses on rebuilding churches, schools, and other essential parts of the parishes’ infrastructure, which are needed to rebuild people’s hope. Rebuilding the Church and her structures is critically important now, as many civil jurisdictions declare that they are no longer able to assist those who were displaced by the 2005 hurricanes, and will be unable to do so in the future. Help rebuild the Church and rebuild hope in New Orleans and Biloxi on August 26-27. The need is great. And your participation can make a difference.
